Which temple was the Wonder of the World?
The Temple of Diana on the Aventine was modeled after the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This temple was originally built in 800 BCE, was destroyed and rebuilt in 600 BCE, then was destroyed and rebuilt yet again in 550 BCE with funding by Croesus, King of Lydia, who was reputed to be the wealthiest man in the world. It was deliberately burned down in 356 BCE and was again rebuilt. Each temple was designed to exceed the one before it, but the last three were all worthy of being considered a wonder of the world. This novel details the temple built by Chersiphron in 600 BCE.
